MTN’s Chief Marketing Officer Adia Sowho Steps Down Amid Corruption Allegations

Adia Sowho, a marketing specialist, resigned from her role as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of MTN Nigeria, a major telecommunications company, over what insiders consider to be a contentious situation.

As revealed by the local brand news, in August 2021, Sowho was appointed as MTN Nigeria’s first female CMO. She graduated from engineering school in 2001, at which point her career officially began. In 2007, she moved from her position as a radio frequency engineer at US Cellular Corporation in Chicago to a management consulting position at Deloitte Consulting LLP.

Despite accusations of corruption, MTN Nigeria has not released an official comment as of the time of publication. However, a source disclosed that her departure was by mutual consent.

However, MTN’s Public Relations Manager, Lakinbofa Goodluck, stated that Sowho’s departure “was mutual disengagement from MTN.”

“It was a mutual disengagement,” the MTN representative said, upon learning that the former CMO was accused of resigning due to charges of corruption against her.

Concurrently, Sowho will relinquish her position as Chief Customer and Experience Officer (CCXO) and be replaced as acting Chief Marketing Officer by Ugonwa Nwoye, a C-suite executive who oversees the biggest customer care operation in the Middle East and Africa.

Adding, for every client segment that MTN Nigeria targets and serves, Nwoye is in charge of the strategy for customer operations, design and implementation of the contacting service, upselling, and support experience.
