PAU Press Partners CLOCKSS To Secure The Future Of African Creative Media Scholarship

Pan-Atlantic University Press (PAU Press) has entered into a strategic partnership with CLOCKSS to digitally preserve the scholarly content of its peer-reviewed Journal of Creative Media (JCM), marking a significant step towards safeguarding African research and ensuring its long-term accessibility to scholars worldwide.
CLOCKSS, an independent, not-for-profit digital preservation organisation supported by academic publishers and research libraries globally, uses a geographically distributed archive based on LOCKSS technology to preserve scholarly content across multiple locations. Where original digital content becomes unavailable, the CLOCKSS system can trigger access to the preserved material under an open licence.
Under the new agreement, all published content of the Journal of Creative Media will be securely archived within the CLOCKSS global digital preservation network. The arrangement is designed to protect the journal’s scholarly output against technological failure and other risks that could threaten long-term access to academic research.
A spokesperson for PAU Press said the partnership demonstrates the University’s commitment to international standards in scholarly publishing and the preservation of African knowledge.
“By placing JCM in a trusted global archive, we are guaranteeing that African research in media and the creative industries remains accessible for future generations,” the spokesperson said.
Strengthening the Reach of African Research
The partnership represents an important milestone for both JCM and PAU Press, strengthening the journal’s digital resilience while supporting the wider global visibility of research emerging from Africa’s media and creative industries.
Published twice a year by Pan-Atlantic University Press and managed by the Centre for Media and Communication Research (CMCR), School of Media and Communication, the Journal of Creative Media covers a broad range of disciplines, including journalism, broadcasting, film, advertising, public relations, music, performing arts and literary studies, as well as other areas of the creative industries.
The journal is positioned as a platform for advancing scholarship and encouraging meaningful dialogue among academia, industry and policymakers on emerging issues shaping media and the creative industries globally.
Through its partnership with CLOCKSS, PAU Press is further positioning the Journal of Creative Media within a global digital preservation ecosystem, helping ensure that valuable African scholarship remains available to researchers and future generations.
