In just six days, 254 donors have raised more than R285,000 for three-year-old Peyton Wahl, who remains in hospital after suffering severe burns when he fell into a bath filled with hot water.
Peyton is currently receiving treatment at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, where his family says he has now developed an infection and fever, adding another complication to an already difficult recovery.
The Peyton Wahl Fund was launched as his family faced rapidly increasing medical expenses following the accident. Initial costs were estimated at around R200,000, but the latest estimate has climbed to approximately R698,030 because of the extent of Peyton’s injuries, complications and the treatment still ahead.
The fundraising target has therefore been increased to R698,030 to help ease that financial pressure.
Within six days, the community has already covered 41% of the goal, with R285,156 raised, including R2,200 in offline donations.
For Peyton’s family, the money raised represents immediate help at a time when their attention needs to remain on their little boy and his recovery.
An Accident That Changed Everything
Peyton is only three years old.His family says he suffered serious burn injuries after accidentally falling into a bath containing hot water and was admitted to hospital for urgent medical care.

“With medical bills that initially started at around R200,000, we have now received an estimated cost of R698,029.30,” campaign organiser Juliette du Toit explains.

He has developed an infection and fever while receiving treatment, adding a new concern as his body continues recovering from his burn injuries.
The family has also raised concerns about access to the pain medication Peyton currently needs, saying the hospital has experienced a shortage.
With a lengthy period of treatment and recovery still expected, the family says the final cost could increase further.

Faced with those costs, friends turned to the public for help. The response has been remarkable. In six days, 254 people have contributed R285,156, including R2,200 recorded as offline support.
That means an appeal created during one of the most frightening moments in the family’s life has already reached 41% of its revised R698,030 target.
The pace of the response is significant. Instead of Peyton’s family facing the full financial burden alone, more than R285,000 has already been contributed by a growing community determined to support his treatment and recovery.
