PMI Expands AI Capabilities With Cognilytica Acquisition

The Project Management Institute (PMI) has announced next-generation tools to enhance AI skills for project professionals. By acquiring Cognilytica, a leader in AI and machine learning research, training, and certification, PMI will integrate Cognilytica’s AI-focused resources into its offerings. This includes certifications like CPMAI and a wealth of AI-related content. PMI also upgraded its AI assistant, PMI Infinity™ 2.0, optimizing it for faster and more efficient project management tasks, reaffirming its leadership in AI-driven project management transformation.
The Project Management Institute (PMI), the global authority in project management, has taken a significant step forward by expanding its AI capabilities with the acquisition of Cognilytica, a leader in AI, machine learning (ML), automation, and data analytics. Cognilytica’s renowned CPMAI AI & ML project management certification and training programs will now be part of PMI’s offerings. PMI members will gain access to an extensive repository of AI-focused content, research, and advisory, as well as the AI Today podcast.

This acquisition comes at a time when AI adoption is rapidly growing in project management. A new PMI research report, “Pushing the Limits: Transforming Project Management with GenAI Innovation,” found an 86% increase in professionals using Generative AI (GenAI) in more than half of their projects since early 2024. This growing trend underscores the need for project managers to upgrade their AI capabilities and align their practices with cutting-edge technologies.
PMI has also unveiled PMI Infinity™ 2.0, an upgraded version of its AI assistant powered by GPT-4o. The updated tool is designed to enhance project efficiency and productivity with expanded capabilities for document generation and custom templates. With the integration of Cognilytica’s expertise, along with contributions from global experts, PMI aims to equip project managers with tools to lead AI-driven transformations across industries.
