AREWA24 FILES N10 BILLION DEFAMATION SUIT AGAINST AHMED TIJJANI RAMALAN, ATAR COMMUNICATIONS AND THE NBMOA
AREWA24, the leading Hausa language family entertainment, lifestyle television network and production studio in Nigeria and across West Africa, has filed a N10 billon defamation suit against Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Ramalan, Atar Communications Nigeria Limited (operators of Liberty TV and Radio) and the Northern Broadcast Media Owners Association (NBMOA), following a series of false, damaging, and unsubstantiated allegations made against the company.
The legal action, filed at the State High Court (Jalingo), seeks redress for reputational damage and financial losses arising from statements allegedly issued by NBMOA and Tijjani Ramalan that AREWA24 asserts are misleading and injurious to its brand and operations. The company maintains that the claims lack any factual basis and have the potential to erode the trust it has built with its audiences, partners, and stakeholders over the years.
In a statement, AREWA24 emphasized its commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and responsible programming. “We have built our reputation on credible, culturally relevant, and impactful entertainment content that serves millions of viewers across Nigeria, West Africa and beyond. We will not allow reckless and unfounded allegations from disgruntled individuals to undermine the trust and goodwill we have established,” the company stated.
AREWA24 further noted that while it remains open to constructive criticism, it will take all necessary legal steps to protect its reputation, staff and business interests. The company expressed confidence in the judicial process and reaffirmed its dedication to transparency and accountability.
The lawsuit seeks, among other reliefs, damages in the sum of N10 billion, a public retraction of the alleged defamatory statements, and a formal apology from Ahmed Tijjani Ramalan, Atar Communications Nigeria Limited and the NBMOA.
