Guinness Amplifies Nnewi New Yam Festival, Promotes Cultural Heritage

Guinness Nigeria, celebrated in a grand style the 2023 Afia Olu (New Yam) festival with Nnewi industrial community in Anambra State to make a mission statement of the brand as the people showcased their cultural heritage.

The new yam festival is an annual Thanksgiving event in Igboland and other ethnic nationalities, mostly held in August to mark the end of a harvest and the beginning of the next farming season. This fosters love, peace, unity and progress among the people.

This year, the partnership between Guinness and the people of Nnewi reinforced their commitment and support for a rich cultural heritage and vibrant expressions. The celebration showcased the stunning colours of the Anambra people, the beautiful cultural feats of dance and music, local delicacies, and energetic performances which included traditional wrestling competitions.

 Mark Mugisha, Marketing, and Innovation Director at Guinness Nigeria Plc., in his statement emphasized the importance of the partnership between Guinness and the people of Nnewi.

  He said: “Guinness, as a brand is deeply rooted in culture, and therefore we are keen on the celebration of the passion that enables our audience to create timeless experiences together, where they shine brightest.”

     The people of Nnewi expressed their delight that Guinness joined them in the celebration of their long-standing tradition as a community and to acknowledge who they are.
