The National Basketball Association (NBA) has named Ope Lawal as its Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Africa, marking a significant appointment in its leadership team.
Ope is a seasoned marketing leader with vast experience in brand strategy, digital transformation, and customer engagement across Africa and emerging markets.
Before joining NBA Africa, she led portfolio strategy, brand, creative, research, and product marketing at Cassava Technologies, overseeing diverse business units across 40+ countries in Connectivity, Cloud & Cyber Security, AI, Data Centres, Payments, and Renewable Energy.
She also served as Group Head of Brand, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Head of Marketing, East Africa, at Liquid Intelligent Technologies. She has held senior marketing roles at Airtel and Etisalat Nigeria, where she was instrumental in acquiring over 50 million subscribers through award-winning campaigns and strategic sponsorship activations.
Earlier in her career, she led media strategy and planning at OMD Nigeria, managing a global portfolio of consumer brands.
A champion of data-driven storytelling, Ope holds a Mathematics degree from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, and an Executive MBA from INSEAD Business School, France. She is a member of the CMO Council and a strong advocate for customer-focused marketing strategies.
Her appointment reflects the NBA’s commitment to expanding its African presence, leveraging her strategic vision and expertise to enhance brand engagement and market growth.
