Tech Summit 1.0 To Tackle Local Challenges With Green Solutions On July 12

The city of Lagos, Nigeria will play host to the maiden edition of what has been described as a groundbreaking technology conference aimed at leveraging innovative solutions to tackle grassroots issues, Tech Summit 1.0.

The inaugural Tech Summit 1.0, themed “Greenify Your Future: Tech Solutions for Local Challenges,” will take place at the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Hall in Idiagbon, Lagos, on the 12th of July, 2024.

The event is organized by the Devbot Academy in collaboration with the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN). Speaking on the forthcoming summit, Comrade Segun Osunniyi Emmanuel, Co-founder, Devbot Academy who also doubles as the Assistant General Secretary of the NYCN in the local government, says that the rationale behind the event is to bring technology closer to the grassroot. “Ifako-Ijaiye Ojokoro is one LGA in this state that boasts young men and women that are using technology to advance the growth of Lagos state. Starting the conference here is our way of contributing to the growth of the LGA, Lagos and Nigeria,” he said.

Also speaking on the forthcoming event, Comrade Victor Adogbajale, Coordinator of the NYCN in Ifako Ijaiye revealed that the Tech Summit 1.0 is a free-entry event. He however stressed that registration is compulsory to help manage capacity and ensure a diverse representation of community stakeholders.

He also remarked that the summit is expected to bring together a diverse panel of experts from various fields, including government officials, tech entrepreneurs, and community leaders. “With this summit, our aim is to bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and the pressing needs of local communities, with a particular focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions.”

Headlining the speaker lineup is Hakeem Popoola Fahm, former Hon. Commissioner for Science and Technology in Lagos State, whose extensive experience is expected to provide valuable insights into integrating technology into governmental frameworks. Joining him is Alabi Opeyemi Oladimeji, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilization, who will likely address the critical role of youth engagement in tech-driven community development.

The private sector will be well-represented by Mr. Eyitayo Ogunmola, CEO of Utiva and Managing Partner FIiT, bringing his expertise in tech education and business transformation to the table. Peter Daniel, founder/CEO of Petrong Software Solutions, is set to discuss innovative urban planning technologies, while Eniola Olaleye, Data Scientist at Casual Foundry, US will explore the potential of data-driven solutions for local challenges.

Rounding out the panel are Kola Omisore, SLG Ojokoro LCDA, who will provide insights from a local government perspective; Funke Ojekunle, a LinkedIn Coach, expected to discuss the role of professional networking in tech innovation; and Barr. Oluwatomisin Odusanya, bringing a legal perspective on tech implementation in local governance.

This initiative comes at a crucial time when Nigeria, like many developing nations, is grappling with the dual challenges of rapid urbanization and environmental sustainability. The Tech Summit 1.0, according to organizers, is a concerted effort to harness the power of technology in creating scalable, green solutions that can be implemented at the local government level.
