The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of The SERAS Africa Sustainability Awards and the management of TruCSR, Nigeria’s premier sustainability consulting firm, are thrilled to extend their heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu as he concludes his distinguished tenure as CEO of Zenith Bank Plc.
Under Mr. Onyeagwu’s dynamic leadership, Zenith Bank not only solidified its presence as a household name in Nigeria but also earned global recognition as a pioneering financial institution. His tenure was marked by innovative financial solutions and a strong commitment to sustainability best practices. His exceptional contributions were acknowledged when he was named Banking CEO of the Year in Africa at the International Banker Awards in 2023 and 2024. Additionally, he won The CEO of the Year at The SERAS for two consecutive years in 2021 and 2022, during which Zenith Bank also secured the title of Most Responsible Organization in Africa.
Mr. Onyeagwu’s visionary leadership, resilience, and dedication to excellence and ethical banking practices have been truly commendable, positioning Zenith Bank as a leading financial institution both in Africa and globally. As he steps down, we wish him continued success in his future endeavors.
We also celebrate the appointment of his successor, Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji, OON, as Group Managing Director/Chief Executive, effective June 1, 2024. Her appointment marks a historic milestone as the first female head of Zenith Bank, underscoring the bank’s commitment to gender equality in senior leadership positions.
